Start with the right scope
A practical approach to the work
Start with what the water is doing. A blockage, damaged join and sagging section can need different work. Tell us where the overflow appears and whether it returns after cleaning, so the enquiry covers the cause as well as the visible mess.
01
Cleaning
Leaves and other debris can interrupt the drainage route. A cleaning enquiry should identify which elevations and outlets are affected, including gutters hidden behind parapets or above a lower roof. Ask for the scope to identify any areas that cannot be reached.
02
Repairs
A persistent drip at a join or a displaced section deserves a closer look. Describe the location and any previous repair. The condition of the gutter and its supports matters when deciding whether a local repair is sensible.
03
Replacement
Worn or damaged guttering may need replacement rather than another clean. The replacement scope should address the affected run, connections and access. We can discuss that alongside other roof work where the two meet.
Which enquiry fits the problem?
What you notice
What to discuss
Leaves visible and water spilling over
A gutter clean and review of the affected drainage route.
The same join drips after cleaning
A repair assessment, with the history of earlier sealing.
Guttering has holes or hangs out of line
The condition of the run and whether replacement is appropriate.
Water appears inside but the source is unclear
Leak investigation rather than assuming a gutter clean will resolve it.
Before you request a gutter quote
Give the address, building height and the side affected.
Send photographs from a safe position, with a wide view as well as the problem area.
Mention overhanging trees, access through neighbours and parking restrictions.
Explain whether it happens in all rain or only particular conditions.
Ask whether waste removal, outlets and any repairs are included.
Questions before you book
How often should gutters be cleaned?
The right cycle depends on surrounding trees, debris and previous blockages. Use your building's maintenance history to discuss a suitable interval. A recurring problem needs its cause considered, not just a shorter cleaning cycle.
Can you reach gutters on a tall or awkward building?
Difficult access is part of Altitude's work. We assess the building and task before deciding how to reach it. Rope access may be suitable, but the method is selected for the site.
Will cleaning fix a roof leak?
Only if the gutter problem is the cause. Water can enter through roof details or other junctions. If the source is uncertain, start with our leak investigation service.
